Which Scottish Property Sectors are Experiencing the Highest Demand?

This month we looked at the proportion of Scottish property listings on NovaLoca within each of the different sectors. We compared this to the proportion of email enquiries so far in 2017 for these same sectors. These figures suggest more demand than supply for Industrial, Retail & Leisure but less demand for Office, Land & Other commercial property.

Comments from Angela Ogelvie of Ceteris seem to support these stats, with the company’s occupancy rates almost 100% for industrial but 70% for office.  When we spoke to Peter Seymour in May, he reported a great year so far for leisure, which again supported our findings.  We reported big retail redevelopment projects in Aberdeen & Edinburgh & also how retail & leisure are being supported by a growth in tourism, with an export boost encouraging production.  However, contrary to our findings, land is still reported to be in high demand.

We would love to know your comments; if these findings are true for the whole of Scotland, are there any trends or plans emerging as a result?

Interestingly, we also found that Scotland is attracting more enquiries on NovaLoca than the rest of the UK. Again looking only at email enquiries so far in 2017 and total property numbers in November 2017; Scotland accounts for 28% of property listings but enjoys 37% of the enquiries. It could be that Scotland is more in demand than the rest of the UK, or alternatively that NovaLoca is more effective at generating enquiries in Scotland than the rest of the UK. As always, we’d be interested in your thoughts.
