Invest in Hampshire: Basingstoke

Hampshire is located on the UK’s south coast within an hour of London and is well connected to Europe and the world. The county has two major motorways, two airports, two ports and rail and road connections providing easy access to London and the rest of the UK. Hampshire is also home to important business locations such as Basingstoke, Farnborough, Portsmouth and Southampton.

Basingstoke is known as Hampshire’s most visited town and is home to many globally recognised brands like Sony, AXA Wealth, Barclays and over 6,000 other businesses in a variety of sectors. Over the last three years, Basingstoke has seen some major investments including the £280m purchase of the Festival Place shopping centre, the complete redevelopment of the Malls shopping centre and £50m for the new Network Rail regional training centres in Basing View.

There are more exciting new developments underway which will improve and expand Basingstoke’s business sector.

Basing View Business Park

Basingstoke Business Park

The mixed use scheme comprises the redevelopment and refurbishment of an existing Business Park for predominantly office use, including some retail, residential and hotel uses. The existing business park is currently home to over 100 businesses with approximately 4,500 people employed.

Muse Developments will lead the redevelopment of Basing View with partnership support from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. The plans include the creation of up to 1,130,210 sq ft of development space and 250,000 sq of net additional development space. This includes the redevelopment of additional buildings.

The vision is that Basing View will be regenerated into a sustainable urban business park. The development has already attracted investment from the John Lewis Partnership, who opened a joint John Lewis at Home and Waitrose store in November 2015. Network Rail has also recently opened a new 150,000 sq. ft. Regional Operating and National Training Centre.

The park has recently secured a £6m investment from Airkix indoor skydiving which opened a brand new centre in July 2013. This is expected to attract around 80,000 visitors per year generating an additional 1,500 hotel stays.

Houndmills Industrial Estate

Basingstoke

Developer Kier Group has bought a six-acre industrial site at the Houndmills Industrial Estate in Basingstoke. The plan is to build a new speculative development.

Subject to planning approval, Kier plans to demolish the 1960s warehouse and office complex and replace this with three new industrial units comprising 108,000 sq ft. Construction is expected to begin this summer with plans for completion in August 2017.

There is a high demand for warehouse space in Basingstoke and the Kier Group expects all units to be taken before completion.
