New EPC procedures require certificates on display

Did you know that EPCs must now be clearly displayed in a large number of commercial buildings? With effect from 9 January, certificates are required to be displayed in commercial properties of more than 500 sq m that are frequently visited by the public where an EPC has been previously issued.

Jones Lang LaSalle associate director Phil Overend feels that these new requirements may have gone unnoticed, particularly by tenants of the buildings affected. “It is the tenant’s, not the landlord’s responsibility, to ensure this happens for their occupied space,” he points out. “Landlords may, however, face similar obligations for common areas under their control,” he notes. Businesses that do not comply could ultimately be fined, Jones Lang LaSalle points out.

Mr. Overend urges everyone to review the Department of Communities and Local Government’s guidance in respect of these changes. You can view it here at the gov.uk website.
