Stratford offices move a step closer

The giant Westfield Stratford City development has appointed CB Richard Ellis and Cushman & Wakefield as joint leasing agents for the 1.1m sq ft of office space to be constructed as part of the scheme.

The offices will be in the new commercial district forming part of the Olympic legacy in East London. More than 70% of spectators are expected to pass through the development on their way to the Games in 2012.

John Burton, director of Westfield Stratford City, said: “With the opportunity for occupiers to be in situ ahead of the Games in 2012, this is a unique opportunity and we are already speaking to international businesses looking to grow or relocate to the city’s most contemporary commercial district.”

Westfield Stratford City is due to open in 2011, when it will be Europe’s largest urban shopping centre. It comprises 1.9m sq ft of retail and leisure space in total, including a 12-screen cinema and more than 300 shops and restaurants. The 1.1m sq ft of offices is the potential total to be constructed in the first phase of the scheme.
