MIPIM kicks off under blue skies

MIPIM 2010 starts today, with first-hand accounts of the property industry gathering now flooding in over the Internet (see Twitter for the latest).

Although reports ahead of this week’s get-together in Cannes had suggested that it would be a “more serious” event than in the past, with less partying on show and more focus on discussions about property-sector debt and bank lending, the initial reports from those settling in suggest that strolls along the Croisette under blue skies are still part of the experience.

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, is in attendance today and there have been suggestions he is about to unveil a deal regarding the transfer of disputed Olympic land to the Olympic Park Legacy Company. Building magazine notes that the issue has been bogged down in negotiations for some time but there are hopes that the agreement will settle who pays for the development land contained within the Olympic Park, to allow redevelopment after the Games.
