The town has become one of the principal distribution / warehousing and high tech centres in Scotland.

Edinburgh Airport is 12 miles to the east of Livingston and Glasgow Airport is 45 miles to the west.

There are also two railway stations (Livingston North and Livingston South) with Livingston North forming part of the recently completed Airdrie to Bathgate line.
