Location

Falkland Farm is located on the northern boundary of the borough of Basingstoke & Deane. Newbury is the closest town which is 2.5 miles north of the farm. Newbury has two mainline railway stations providing regular, direct services to Reading and London Paddington.  The closest settlement to Falkland farm is Wash Water, which has a range of local facilities and services including a Sainsbury’s Local, a GP surgery, pharmacy and range of local restaurants, cafes and public houses. The A34 is located half a mile west of the farm and provides road links to the M4 in the north and to the A303 in the south.

In December 2020 an outline planning application (with all matters reserved aside access) was submitted for the redevelopment of the existing caravan storage site, removal of existing structures and the erection of five residential dwellings and associated access works, parking and landscaping (ref 20/03577/OUT).

The application had case officer’s recommendation for approval, although was refused at the committee meeting on 6th October 2021. The only decision cited in the refusal notice was the unsuitable access track to the site and safety issues regarding access to the A343. It is worth noting that the Highways Development Planning department of  Hampshire County Council raised no objections to the outline application.  The vendor is appealing this decision.
