The first phase of Merchant Gate is now open and includes 48,085 ft of Grade A offices, 66 residential apartments and approximately 30,000 ft of ground floor retail and leisure accommodation.  Also included in Phase 1 is a 1,450 space multi-storey car park.  .  Number 2 Burgage Square is now occupied on the second floor by Albemarle and Bond, and half of the first floor by Zenos.
 
Our clients have also secured Wakefield City Council as a pre-let who will occupy 123,000 ft of office accommodation and this will be situated immediately adjacent to Phase 1.  Occupation of the Council offices will commence from summer 2012 and it is estimated that there will be approximately 1,200 people working from these offices.  Along with the Council Offices, The Library and City Museum will also be located in the building.
 
When all phases of the 140 million Merchant Gate Scheme are complete, the site will contain over 700,000 ft of development with 3 acres of public realm and open space.  It will offer 270 homes, 50,000 ft of retail and leisure space and 300,000 ft of office accommodation and a hotel.  The scheme will also include the creation of a new section of the Emerald Ring being delivered as part of Wakefield Renaissance Programme.
 
In terms of the ground floor accommodation, the restaurant / retail space is housed in Block 2 fronting Burgage Square, and the Emerald Ring outlined on the attached brochure. 
 
All the retail/restaurant units have the benefit of fully glazed shop fronts and substantial outside seating.
