The subjects comprise a public house over ground and lower ground floors, within a four storey attic and lower ground floor traditional property with a single storey extension to the rear.
The main building is of traditional granite stonework construction under a pitched and slated roof incorporating dormer projections, whilst the single storey extension to the rear is of a similar construction.
Internally, the subjects are laid out to provide a main bar/lounge area with an additional bar area that operates as a specialist Whisky bar at ground floor level. The lower ground area houses customer toilets, food preparation areas, small office, staff toilet and storage area with secure liquor store. Access to the ground floor is via three separate staircases.
The lounge/bar area is finished by way of part carpet, part lino covered floors, wallpapered, lath and plaster walls and ceilings, and a variety of ceiling and wall mounted pendant light fitments. This area provides a mix of bench style and individual chair seating and wooden tables. The bar/serving area is finished with a traditional counter housing a variety of beer pumps, in addition to several fridges and tills. Artificial lighting is provided by way of recessed spotlights over the bar. The additional bar area is finished to a similar manner to the main lounge/bar area. A centrally located staff area which provides access to both bars is finished by way of vinyl flooring and fluorescent lighting. This space also houses a small kitchen area with sink, dumb waiter, small preparation area and dishwasher.
A staircase from each of the separate bar areas as well as the staff area provides access to the lower ground floor. This area is finished primarily by way of vinyl covered floors, painted solid walls and painted plasterboard line ceilings with ceiling mounted fluorescent lights. There are separate male and female toilets with cubicles, wash-hand basins and urinals in the male facilities. Further at lower ground floor level there is a separate staff area and cleaner’s cupboard, staff toilet, office, food preparation space and storage area/liquor store. The storage area is finished by way of unlined walls and floors, strip lighting, plasterboard ceilings and houses the beer kegs and associated pump systems.
