The property is a dormant industrial site that consists of restored landfill, dating back to the 1950’s but closed in the late 1980s, plus an exhausted gravel pit which contains two smaller exhausted sand pits.

The last use of the site was by the Gamble group with the land ownership being with Southern Water. The firm Gambles operated a small, permitted skip recycling operation in the northwest of the site.

Planning
Planning permission was in place to restore the site to agreed levels which was never carried out nor enforced. The planning permission expired in 2006. See applications AL/33/98 & ER/98/1195.

The site comes under the SDNP planning authority. Therefore, any future use will have to comply with the planning policy of a National Park and its designated uses.
