The former Esso Research Centre Abingdon (ERCA) facility is located approximately 6 miles (9.8 km) south of Abingdon, near Milton Hill. The site is positioned in the region of 1 mile (1.6 km) from the Interchange with the A34. This junction also services Ddicot and Milton Park. The A34 links Abingdon with both the M4 to the south and the M40 to the north.

The M40 connects London to the Midlands with further easy motorway access to the north, whilst the M4, which connects to the M5 and M25 motorways provides a direct link to London and the South West.

The nearest railway station is Didcot Parkway which is approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) to the east and provides an intercity service to London (Paddington) with the fastest journey time of approximately 40 minutes. The site is served by local bus routes from Didcot Parkway. Further routes also provide a direct connection to Abingdon and Oxford. Milton Hill sits within the administrative area of the Vale of White Horse District Council, with Abingdon being the largest town in the district approximately 6 miles (10 km) from Oxford. The area has a vibrant economy with a mix of large and small businesses and a highly skilled workforce specialising in sectors including:- Research & Development, IT, Design and Manufacture, Automotive, Biotech, Printing and Publishing. Major business occupiers within the district include Sophos, Oxford Instruments, Asda, Williams F1 and RM.
