Port Salford, Salford, M3

250,000 to 1,000,000 Sq Ft / Industrial

Withdrawn - Last updated: 26 May 2016

A tri-modal inland port facility and distribution park Port Salford is a £XXX million project with planning permission to develop the UK's first tri-modal (served by road, rail and short-sea shipping) inland port facility and distribution park on the Barton Strategic Site adjacent to the Manchester Ship Canal.
Port Salford is a critical component of the Atlantic Gateway development and will provide a central North West distribution base to improve supply chains for businesses across the North West. It will enable direct barge access to the river terminal at the Port of Liverpool and will reduce the environmental impact of the terminal's expansion by reducing freight levels on road.

Location

Approximately one kilometre from Junction 11 of the M60 motorway

Specification

Port Salford will: include a 153,000 sq. m. warehousing facility and will create the Port Salford National Import Centre which will enable specialist goods handling and redistribution; incorporate the Western Gateway Enabling Scheme (WGES) which includes a series of essential transportation works to improve access to the site and surrounding areas including M60 junction improvements, a new dual carriageway link and a new bridge crossing over the Manchester Ship Canal; generate some 3,858 gross permanent jobs; and lower transportation costs for northern businesses which will improve competitiveness
