Heartlands is one of the largest brownfield redevelopment sites in Europe, encompasing the 1,500 acre former Polkemmet Colliery and Cowhill Farm.
Heartlands sits on the site of the fomer Polkemmet Colliery which closed in 1986. For the last 3 years, the site has been extensively remediated involving the compacting of in excess of 8m cubmic metres of rock and soil (the largest engineered platform in Europe). These works have transformed the land into what will become a desirable location to both live and work.
Heartlands will become a new location, Reveston Village, adjacent to the existing town and will comprise 2,000 new homes within a well thought out and attractive environment. To service these new homes, there will be 2 championship golf courses, due to be completed in 2011/2012, a new neighbourhood shopping facility and shopping centre.
