Location

The Herrislea House Hotel is located in the hamlet of Tingwall some 6 miles north west of Lerwick. The Shetland Isles are the northernmost region of the United Kingdom and is famous for the BP oil terminal and more recently the new Total gas terminal. The island is heavily dependent on oil but recently the BP terminal’s life expectancy has been extended to around 40 years. There are increasing numbers of workers required on the island, so much so that another accommodation ship has recently been dispatched to the island.

The island has a resident population of around 23,167 (2011 census) with nearby Lerwick having 6,958 persons.

The island is also famous for its Viking festivals which can last for several days. There are several Fire Festivals around the island’s towns. Shetland is also popular with bird watchers who visit during the summer months.
