Location
The site is situated to the immediate south of
Castle Street to the south of Dumbarton town
centre. Dumbarton lies on the north bank of the
River Clyde, where the River Leven flows into the
Clyde estuary, within the West Dunbartonshire
Council area.
Dumbarton is situated on the main A82 road
linking with Glasgow, approximately 19 miles (35
minutes drive) to the east.
Dumbarton is also served by three railway
stations, Dumbarton Centre, Dumbarton East
and Dalreoch Railway Stations, all of which sit on
the North Clyde Line providing direct links from
Helensburgh through to Glasgow Queen Street
and Edinburgh Waverley.
Accommodation
The residential development opportunity
comprises the site of the former Allied Distillers
(now part demolished), extending to 2.96 hectares
(7.31 acres), or thereby sandwiched between
Castle Street to the north and the River Leven to
the south, bound to the east by a further derelict
industrial site and a tidal basin and to the west by
a bank building and car park serving Dumbarton
Town Centre. The site is generally flat in nature
and surfaced with a compacted hardstanding
finish. Part of the former distillery remains on site,
which is a red brick built mill tower, which sits in
the northern section of the site.
