Isle of Wight commercial property locations
Off the coast of Hampshire in the English Channel, the Isle of Wight is famous for its sailing based in Cowes. Much of the islands industrial past was based around boat building, sail making and the development of the hovercraft although agriculture created a significant economy too. The Isle of Wight’s County town, Newport, is located in the centre of the island and is the commercial and retail centre, although it is the second largest town in the county. The largest town on the island is Ryde. The island is also the location of Queen Victoria’s holiday home, Osbourne House as well as other English Hertiage sites at Carisbooke Castle and Yarmouth Castle.
With no motorways, the main towns in the county are connected by trunk roads. Buses link most settlements to Newport with a 24 hour service between most towns and Newport. There are frequent passenger and car ferries between the county and the mainland.
