On the south coast of England, Hampshire shares borders with Dorset, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey and West Sussex. The County town of Winchester forms one of the regions major commercial centres, whilst two of England’s largest ports, Southampton and Portsmouth, lie on Hampshire’s coastline and attract many tourists to the region. Basingstoke, in the north of the county has grown into the regions business and finance centre. The New Forest National Park and much of the South Downs lie within the borders of this county.
Southampton airport offers international flights, whilst ferries leave and enter Southampton for the Isle of Wight and from Portsmouth to Guernsey, Jersey and mainland France. The M3 cuts through the county linking Southampton and London, whilst the M7 provides a bypass to the conurbation which has grown up between the two major ports.
