Facing the Irish Sea to the west and bordered by Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire on all other sides. Lancashire’s administrative centre is Preston although Lancaster is still regarded as being the County town. The county emerged during the Industrial Revolution as a major commercial and industrial region. Blackpool remains the county’s centre for tourism whilst other commercial towns include, Blackburn, Bolton and Wigan.
Lancashire is served by the M6, M55, M58, M61 and M65 motorways. With stations in Preston and Lancaster the West Coast Railway Line links the county to other major commercial towns including London.
