Formed in 1974, Humberside is bordered by North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Nottingham and has a coastline to the North Sea. The regions only city, the university city of Kingston on Hull forms Humberside’s commercial and retail centre. The north and south of the county are split by the Humber Estuary, which the Humber Bridge now crosses linking the County town of Beverly in the north to the commercial centres of Grimsby and Scunthorpe.
The M62 and M181 both run into the Humberside region and a number of A roads cross the county. Ferries leave the port at Kingston on Hull bound for the coast of the Netherlands.
