Dyfed, in the south-west of Wales, was created in 1974. The administrative centre is Carmarthen, whilst the region is also home to other commercial centres such as Pembroke and Tenby.
The M4 runs close to the border with the A48 bringing visitors the rest of the way into the county. Ferries leave from Pembroke, on the south coast of the county, and Fishguard on the west coast bound for Rosslare, Republic of Ireland.
