Cumbria commercial property locations
Created in 1974, Cumbria enjoys an Irish Sea coastline and shares borders with Lancashire, North Yorkshire, Durham and Northumberland. Carlisle is Cumbria’s commercial centre and only city, with Barrow on Furness being its largest town. Both towns provide the main retail facilities in the county. With only five towns with more than 20,000 inhabitants, much of the county is rural. Home to the Lake District National Park and England’s highest mountain, largest lake and steepest road, much of Cumbria’s economy is based on tourism.
The main transport artery thorough Cumbria is the M6 connecting the region to Birmingham to the south and, via the M74, Glasgow to the north.
